Types of home lighting

In every home, there are basically three types of lighting that are used to brighten up the different spaces. They are Ambient Lighting, Task Lighting and Ambient Lighting.

Ambient Lighting is usually the primary lighting source of a room and includes anything from recessed lighting to overhead fixtures. Usually, ambient lighting is decided by the “foot candle” route, or the amount of brightness generated from the light source to one feet of distance. Ambient Lighting is usually required more in areas such as bathrooms and kitchens.

Task Lighting is deployed to specifically provide light for certain tasks or activities such as doing make-up seated in front of the mirror on the dressing table or even a simple activity such as reading a book before bedtime. These lights are used to brighten up only the relevant area of the room and not the entire room. Task lights can be fitted into a mirror, mounted on a wall or even seated on a desk. Some task lights also have a smooth rotating function so that you can conveniently swing them whichever way you want to. omkar alta monte price

Accent Lighting is the most visually visible decorative piece of lighting. You should use this form of lighting to put the focus on interior pieces on which you want to draw special attention of your guests. Typically, this type of lighting is used to highlight bookshelves, paintings or a large piece of furniture art. They provide a luxurious ambience to your house in the form of chandeliers and designer lamps and comes with multiple bulbs. However, you must know that Accent lighting consumes comparatively more electricity and will surely increase your monthly electricity bill. Which is why, this lighting should be used only on special occasions and not everyday.

Different lighting for every space

Different areas of your house require different lighting as per the objective and area size. The living room is one area of your house which is used for both relaxation and entertaining. For ensuring that special events get all the visual important they deserve, we suggest you go in for a large chandelier or a big sequence of centrally hanging lights. However, as you will not use them everyday, you should also have lighting from floor and table lamps that will save you from lighting up the big lights every time  and add to your electricity expenses.

The dining room is where to want to enjoy a nice dinner with family and friends. We suggest you install a small chandelier with minimum bulbs or pendant lights directly above the table. Do ensure that they hand at a good distance otherwise you’ll keep hitting your head into them.

When it comes to the kitchen, different lighting is applicable to different areas of this space. You should use bright lighting over the counter tops  and dim lighting over relatively unused areas. If you have a kitchen island in the middle which serves both as storage and dining area, we suggest you install small pendant lights over it.

Bedroom is the space where you  want to relax after a successful day, so we suggest you use Task

Lighting in the centre and dim lighting around the top edges of the false ceiling. In the bathroom, where lighting is more of a necessity, you should use staggered Task Lighting over the basin and along the top corners for an even yet soft lighting.
